About me
I am a Human-Computer Interaction researcher and Associate Professor in Communication. My research focuses on issues related to the democracy of technology, including social and environmental sustainability, social justice, feminism, and to specific applications of computing technology, including in civic society, food, and social media.
These diverse strands of research are connected by common concerns for designing and understanding technologies from perspectives of equity and equality. This includes issues of access, participation, representation, power, and identity. To explore these issues I employ techniques from design and qualitative social science, and outputs from this work include computing systems (such as apps, IoTs, and information resources), visualisations, and written texts.
I am always interested in conversations that open up areas of study and where the application and design of technology has the goal to improve society.
