QS ranking highlights KTH social impact, collaboration and sustainability

With high marks for sustainability, social impact and international research collaboration, KTH was ranked 78th worldwide in the 2026 QS World University Rankings which were released today.
The 2026 ranking places KTH second among universities in Sweden and 12th among those in the European Union.
"KTH Royal Institute of Technology continues to demonstrate strong international performance in the QS World University Rankings 2026," says Mikael Lindström, vice president of KTH. "We are proud to see continued strong results in the QS Sustainability ranking, especially within the Environmental and Social Impact dimensions."
The QS World University Rankings are issued each June, providing students worldwide with an evaluation of leading universities. Nearly 5,000 universities were rated according to numerous weighted metrics, among them: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
KTH's placement in the QS was lower than the previous year's ranking of 74th, even with improved scores in eight out of nine indicators. While the university's overall position shifted slightly—from 74 to 78—its total score increased significantly, from 65.7 to 73.6 out of 100.
Lindström says the indicator scores reflect real progress. "KTH remains a top performer among Swedish universities, outperforming the national median in nearly all metrics," he says.
"Together with our Nordic peers, we are advancing efforts in responsible research, governance, and education for sustainable development," he says.
